Dear John,

I have read - "skimmed" - your article: The Israel Lobby.

The paragraph:

When Howard Dean called for the United States to take a more ‘even-handed role’ in the Arab-Israeli conflict, Senator Joseph Lieberman accused him of selling Israel down the river and said his statement was ‘irresponsible’. Virtually all the top Democrats in the House signed a letter criticising Dean’s remarks, and the Chicago Jewish Star reported that ‘anonymous attackers . . . are clogging the email inboxes of Jewish leaders around the country, warning – without much evidence – that Dean would somehow be bad for Israel.’

is recalling memories of Howard Dean.

Israeli and US circles of religious zeal are in close alliance.

I think Howard Dean would have been a good medicine to the Middle East.

As a sad fact, many Americans and the Israelis are looking at the enlightened Dean as an inferior human being. A threat to the myths.

Perhaps the imperfect Balfour Declaration should be reread again today:

Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet:

His Majesty's Government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.

I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge
of the Zionist Federation.

Palestinians were really probably unwise to reject it, and their leaders are still ruining any chance for peace until today.

Israel's Declaration of Independence reads:


...........WE APPEAL - in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months - to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions.

WE EXTEND our hand to all neighboring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighborliness, and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people settled in its own land. The State of Israel is prepared to do its share in a common effort for the advancement of the entire Middle East........................


The Arab nations could finally adopt similar attitudes.

And you can then write a more optimistic article.

PS Did you have any inclining to criticize the messages of the phony religious groupings in USA, Israel, and the Arab countries....which distort human relationships between nations? Inferior others?
